Status of State Budget for FY 2009-2010: The 2009 Florida Legislature and the Governor approved the following line items for Fiscal Year 2009-2010 for state arts, culture, and historical grants:

Cultural and Museum Grants:  $2,500,000 from general revenue
                                                          $   297,200 from National Endowment for the Arts Block Grant

Historic Preservation Grants:  $550,000 ($125,000 earmarked for Florida Holocaust Museum)
                                                         $112,450 from federal sources

How the Statewide Florida Cultural Alliance Legislative Platform Is Developed:  The Florida Cultural Alliance conducts monthly statewide calls among Florida's local arts agencies, statewide arts and cultural service organizations, and representatives from Florida arts and cultural organizations.  The Alliance uses these conference calls to review the status of state and federal  issues that impact Florida's arts and cultural industries.  We also discuss and share advocacy strategies.  These calls also help the Alliance each year develop a legislative platform to use in educating state policy makers of the vital roles our state' arts, arts education, and cultural resources play in a myriad of ways.  Refer to sample talking points on how Florida arts and cultural industry positively impacts Florida's economic well being.

     2.  The Governor and Department of State Request the following appropriations for Fiscal Year 2010-2011:

                                             Cultural and Museum Grants:  $1,500,000
                                             Specific Cultural Projects:        $1,000,000

                                             Historic Preservation Grants:  $250,000

History of State Appropriations for Arts, Culture, and Historical Resources  from Fiscal Years 2006-2007 through 2009-2010.  State support for Division of Cultural Affairs' grants programs have been cut by over 92% since 2006-2007.  Florida now ranks 49th in per capita funding in state appropriations in the country, investing only 14 cents per Floridian.  Click here for budget comparisons for grants programs for Florida Divisions of Cultural Affairs and Historical Resources from FY 2006-2007 through 2009-2010.

Education Accountabilty

Amends a provision relating to secondary school redesign, to delete obsolete provisions and to conform to changes made by the act. Revises requirements for middle grades promotion. Provides that successful completion of a high school level Algebra I, Geometry, or Biology I course is not contingent upon a student's performance on the end-of-course assessment. Revises requirements for high school graduation, etc.
