Monday, June 21, 2010: The Florida Division of Cultural Affairs announced its 2010-2011 grant awards under the only grants line item that received appropriations from the 2010 Florida Legislature for cultural grants -- the Cultural and Museum Grants. The Florida Legislature recommended $2,000,000 for this line item, down from $2,500,000 for Fiscal Year 2009-2010; however, they earmarked $1,000,000 for the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center and $50,000 for the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala. The Governor vetoed the $1,000,000 for the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center, but did not veto the $50,000 for the Appleton Museum of Art. By having these legislative earmarks listed within this line item, that only leaves $950,000 to award in state-cultural grants.
The Florida Division of Cultural Affairs awarded its $950,000 appropriation to 245 grants in 33 counties. Grants range from $7,741 to $37.
